WELCOME TO DISCOVERY

Meet Our Team

/files/Images/Staff Photos/Clemens, Dan.jpgDan Clemens (Lead Pastor) - My family (wife Andrea, son Corey and daughter Avery) and I moved from Canton, OH to Moreno Valley, CA to begin our journey with Discovery in August 2012. We knew the moment we arrived Discovery would be the place where we could lay down our roots and begin building relationships with those around us. I live by the words of Paul in II Timothy 1:7, "For God did not give us a Spirit of timidity, but a Spirit of power, of love and self-discipline."  I'm excited for the future of Discovery and look forward to the ways we will grow together. Live blessed!

/files/Images/Staff Photos/joe anderson_Resized_188x237.jpgJoe Anderson (Executive Pastor) I was born and raised in Riverside and have lived with my wife, Denise, in Moreno Valley since 1982.  We have been active members of Discovery Christian Church since 1985 because of the love we were shown by all who attend this church, and the great children's program here.  I am the proud father of four adult daughters and they were all raised in this church. Everyone is called to serve and I am proud to serve in full time ministry.  Not many people can say they have their "Dream Job", but I can.

Don Maresh (Worship Pastor) - I joined the staff in October, 2001 but have been leading worship here since 1986.  I see worship as a way to help bring the congregation to a place in their hearts where they are free to worship God and to be drawn closer to Him.  Psalm 47:10 speaks to me; "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."  This verse reminds me to always rest in Christ.  I am married to a beautiful wife, Becky, and have a son, Joe, and a daughter, Tarah.

Dallas Jackson (Pastor of Student Ministries)I grew up in Long Beach and attended school to become an automotive engineer.  God called me to pursue full time ministry in 2009.  My wife, Natalie, and I have a heart for serving youth and families in the community.  We have had opportunities to serve in full time ministry in Oregon and Missouri before God called us back to California to serve at Discovery in April 2015.  We have three children, Ryder, Aria and Nora. Discovery Church will make you feel right at home and we have felt that from day one.  We hope you feel at home  here too.  John 15:13 "Greater Love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's  friends."

Nick Holst (Director of Outreach & Discipleship) - My family (Marisa, Owen and Jack) and I moved to Moreno Valley in 2011 and came to Discovery.  I was surprised by how real, loving and encouraging people were.  We plugged in and I submitted my life to Christ.  After working with Feeding Children Everywhere for two years, I was called to join the Discovery team in April 2015.  Now, I find joy in developing opportunities for us to get out in the community, build relationships and plant seeds for Jesus Christ.  It's empowering to see people grow in faith through learning,  discipleship,  life  groups  and serving.   My  life is guided by Colossians 3:1-17.

Velma Foreman (Director of Children's Ministry)I was blessed with an opportunity to join the staff in 2009.  I am absolutely excited about helping children build a strong biblical foundation and grow as they study the Bible and connect with God.   I believe it is very important for parents and those with spiritual influence to be purposeful in leading their child’s spiritual life.   Romans 10:17 reminds us “…faith comes from hearing the Good News, and people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ.” My vision is that all children hear the gospel and respond to Christ at an early age.

/files/Images/Staff Photos/Leah.jpgLeah Ruby (Director of Nursery Ministry) -My family's first visit to Discovery was in 2004.  When my husband heard the praise music he said, "This is it!" We are learning much about God and what it means to be of service here at Discovery.  I began volunteering in 2005 in the nursery because I just love babies. While I've volunteered for other classes, my heart remains in the nursery and I am excited to be a part of the staff. My vision for the nursery department is to see it grow to include an overall family ministry.  There are so many Bible verses that speak to me, but the ones that speak to me the most include the word "Hope."

Tara Yazloff (Preschool Director) - My husband and I started coming to Discovery when a friend of ours told us about it in 2009.  It was so easy to get connected with other members and involved in the many ministries here.  We have raised our eight children in the church and share a passion for serving with them.  I have the privilege to be part of the children's ministry team to serve as the Preschool Director.  One of my favorite verses comes from Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

Lindsay Sweeney (Director of Women's Ministry) -I have attended Discovery Christian Church since I was 3 1/2 years old and have called this my church home for 29 years. My husband Brandon and I have two beautiful children, Liam and Abby-Jo. My passions,  besides my husband and children, include nature, photography and God has placed a new  passion on my heart for the women here at Discovery. I am excited to dive in and see where  God leads the women’s ministry. 1 John 3:18 says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech, but with action in truth.” Let us be women whose actions always speak love to others!

Michelle Piazza (Coffee Shop Manager) - It is through faith and prayers that my family has found a home at Discovery Christian Church. I have been a member of Discovery since 2009. The church has provided me opportunities to serve other believers in various ministries. It is because of the love and encouragement of those ministries that my husband and I choose to raise our children up in such a welcoming environment.  I Corinthians 16:14 says: "Let all that you do be done in love." I consider it an honor to be part of the team at Discovery Christian Church and look forward to serving you at our Discovery Café with love.

Dianne Eiler (Administrative Assistant) - I began attending Discovery (Moreno Valley Christian Church at the time) in 1986 and joined the staff in 1991.  My husband and I have eight children and twelve grandchildren.  We are blessed indeed! In addition to my administrative and graphic duties, I am the Connect for Moms director.  I love this ministry and am blessed to be a part of it.  A Bible passage that has always spoken to me is Isaiah 40:28-31.  This passage speaks of our unfathomable God and the strength He gives us.

Patty Cummins (Administrative Assistant) - My boys and I started attending Discovery over 20 years ago.  I immediately joined the Worship Team and have faithfully served the Lord through this rewarding ministry.  I met my husband Brian here, and we joined our families together in 2002.  We have five children and 7 grandchildren.  I joined the staff in July 2015 and am honored to have been chosen to work here.  My life verse is Colossians 1:17 "He is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together".

Matt Rottnek (Facilities Supervisor) - I have been attending Discovery Christian Church since the beginning of 2014 with my beautiful wife, son, and daughter. Towards the end of 2014, I embraced my passion and calling to serve the people in our church and community by volunteering wherever there was a need. Now I am blessed to be working on the church staff where I can continue to serve others and grow myself for God’s glory. I feel encouraged with the passage from II Timothy 1:7 and empowered with the passage from John 13:12-17 where it talks about serving as Jesus served us “…I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you…”.
