Praying With Purpose: Recommitment to Reverence
May 3, 2020
Without a doubt… we miss you! We miss worshipping corporately with you, we miss gathering to laugh, to hug, to cry together. We miss the fellowship time…we miss the opportunity to surround you and pray over you without social distancing limitations.
None of us thought we would still be in this situation at this point…truly uncharted waters…unnerving times…we all are having a difficult time wrapping our minds around this season. But let’s remember, God is in control. He is moving mountains, reestablishing relationships…mending lives…moving His Church in new ways!
Let us all hold tightly to the words in Jeremiah 32:27 where God said, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?”
We want you to know our Elders and our Team are right with you. We want to get back to in-person gatherings at the appropriate time. We are all in agreement that it is a valuable and much needed part of our spiritual life to gather together for worship, prayer and fellowship with one another. We are created for community!
Nevertheless, we are so thankful for the ways ministry through Discovery has been accomplished during this extremely unique season. We continue to see a positive response to our online service with new engagements weekly, ZOOM Life Group meetings and prayer meetings have continued, our Men’s and Women’s ministry continue to meet on ZOOM and grow, our Student ministry continues through online platforms to reach our students, our Children’s ministry makes it a priority to provide lessons on our website and we have experienced a great response during the on-campus Prayer Drive Thru on Sunday mornings! In spite of COVID-19…ministry continues to take place!
The church doors may be closed, but we, as a leadership team, have witnessed how the Church has made a new and transformational impact within our Church family and within the community during this time and for those reasons we are grateful!
As our Elders and our Team continue to prayerfully carry out ministries, we are also preparing for re-entry of in-person gatherings. In light of the President’s recent declaration that “churches are essential,” and his push of the Governor to allow
in-person gatherings to resume, our leadership is meeting together, compiling ideas, putting strategies in order, listening to state and local government officials, along with health officials, to discern what is best for Discovery.
We understand there is no “one right way” to proceed. This is a very complex process, with multiple moving parts to consider. Every church’s situation is different. What we ask is for you to please continue to cover us in prayer and err on the side of grace.
Without question, our top priorities are your spiritual development and your safety. We do not want to make any hasty decisions to jeopardize either one. Your overall
well-being is extremely important to us which is why we are being patient and trusting the process. Even though “the process” does not make sense sometimes, we, in faithful declaration, continue to say, “God’s got this!”
In the coming weeks we will have updates for you on our progress and in due time, we will be back together on campus creating a “new normal”! We ask you to please continue to pray for our church (as a whole) and all other churches and their leadership teams around the world, as we all bear the responsibility of making the best decisions for our congregations.
We love you Discovery… we are thankful for you… we pray over you… and we long to be back with you…and we will… in God’s perfect timing!
